2. Ateneo de Manila University is one good standing university in the Philippines that is mainly located at Manila, Philippines. It’s a private research and teaching institution that is facilitated by Philippines Society of Jesus. The Ateneo University began in the year 1859 when Manila was under control by the Escuela Municipal de Manila at Intramuros, Manila. They became private when the American occupied the Philippines.

3. DLSU or De La Salle University or in Tagalog term: Pamantasang De La Salle is located at Malate, Manila. This is a private university founded by the De La Salle Brothers in the year 1911. De La Salle University was granted as Center of Development and Excellence by The CHED or the Philippine Commission on Higher Education in 6 of its program. They are also one of the 40 institutions that were granted as autonomous status by the CHED or Philippine Commission on Higher Education in the 2010. 6. Silliman University or the SU is located at Dumaguete, Philippines, it’s a private research institution. The university is named after the philanthropist and retired businessman in Cohoes, New York, Dr. Horace Brins made Silliman. Originally they started as elementary school exclusive for boys, and then expanded to college in the year 1910. In the 1st half in 20th century, Siliman was operated by the Americans. After the 2nd world war, Filipino started to assume positions.
The Siliman University is one of the 5 universities in the Philippines that has ‘Institutional Accreditation’ granted by the FAAP or the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines, which is the highest certification that is given to an educational institution after examinations, faculty and service of the program that are accredited. The main campus is Talamban Campus or the Technological Center, North Campus, before the Boys High and South Campus that before was the Girls Campus.
The USC or the University of San Carlos is a Catholic institution that is non-profit and non-stock. Governed with 10 Board of Trustees members, vested with the USC Corporation power.
8. Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas or the UST is one of the Catholic University in the Philippines that is private and operated by the Manila’s Order of Preachers. This university was founded by Miguel de Benavides the archbishop in Manila in the year 1611. The university has the oldest extant university in the Asia and Philippines. It is the world’s largest catholic university and the largest university situated in Manila. 9. The UE or University of the East or in Tagalog: Pamantasan ng Silangan is a non-sectarian and private university situated in University Belt Area, in the district of Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. The UE was originated in 1946 as an institution that is coeducational. They are entitled in Asia as the Largest University in terms of population. They are one of the most stable universities in terms of financial resources. Dr. Lucio Tan invested heavily in education, realizing that education is one best way to escape from poverty. Lucio Tan brought the UE in the year 1990 which became the biggest feat in upholding the education in the country. The UP is recognized as the nation’s premier university that offers the largest number of degree program in Philippines.
