Musical Instrument

A musical instrument is a tool fashioned or modified for the main intention of making musical sounds. In theory, any thing that produces a sound can be called and classified as a musical instrument—it is in the course of use that the object becomes a musical instrument. The account of musical instruments dates back to the early stages of human civilization.

The flute was said to be the most certain earliest musical instrument in the history of humankind. Studies have shown that the first flute artifact is already 37,000 years old which means to say that as early as the Stone Age period music already existed.

The flute comes from the bone of a giant vulture. It was discovered in the Southern part ofGermany, a place calledAchValley. The flute measures around 22 cm long, its diameter one-inch and it contains five small holes. On one end, two V-shaped notches were carved. This area was said to be the area where in the musician positioned the lips to blow. The opposite end is conked out just on the fifth hole. This was authored and explained by the professor of University of Tubingen,Nicholas Conard. He was the lead author of the discovery. Also, based on the study conducted, this flute was able to produce a note range which is analogous to our flutes made at present. Professor Conard also highlighter that music almost certainly did not have much to do in the achievement and growth of the first modern humans, however has given them a lead against the Neanderthals.

Studies and researches showed that the earliest musical tool was dated 67,000 years old but its authenticity and its purpose was still in question. Artifacts commonly acknowledged to be the first flutes date back 37,000 years ago. Most historians on the other hand believed determining a definite time of musical instrument creation to be not possible because of the prejudice of the description.

Instruments of music arouse autonomously in many inhabited areas of the world. However, there was quick spread and alteration of these instruments in the areas away from their origin because of close civilization contacts. During the middle ages, musical instruments which originated in Mesopotamia were found in Maritime Southeast Asia. Instruments coming from North Africa were played by Europeans. Growth inAmericastook place at a slower rate however their culture shares the same musical tool.

Up until now, studies and researches all over the world is being conducted. Debates regarding the authenticity and reliability of artifacts are still present. Many ways and approaches have been tried by the archeologist just to know the origin of the musical instrument however it is sad to say that results are still inconclusive. The certainty of which is which is really the first instrument remains a mystery to us all. What is important is that we know that musical instrument was first invented on the earliest part of human civilization. That even in those time of their life, music has already been made, enjoyed and has already been part of their lives.
