How to Grill Cod Fish
Cod fish is one of the best choice among the many fishes to be grilled. This type of fish can be found in a cold and salty body of water primarily in the Atlantic Ocean. In Portugal, this is treated as a culinary treasure. Many of the European countries also love this beacuse it is flaky and has a mild taste. This type of fish is very good for the heart because it is very rich with fatty acids, omega 3 and Vitamin B12.Furthermore, it contains low fat. Cod fish is abundant in different supermarkets or grocery store. It is not that costly and very easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
· Cod fish
· Lemon – around 6 pieces
· 1 clove of garlic ( depends on how big your cod fish)
· Salt
· Butter ( just enough to coat your cod fish)
· Aluminum foil
Materials:
· Griller
· Knife
· Chopping board
· Small brush
· Clamp
How to prepare a grilled cod fish:
1. Gather all the needed materials and ingredients.
2. If your cod fish it still frozen, thaw it. It is better to thaw it just by leaving it rather than soaking it in water to preserve the taste.
3. Preheat the griller on medium heat.
4. Get your aluminum sheet and cut doubled the size of your cod fish. The foil must be larger than the fish to completely wrap the fish.
5. Once your fish is totally thawed, place the fish over the aluminum foil.
6. Add small amounts of butter all over the cod fish. Use your brush to coat the every inch of the fish with butter. A vegetable oil or olive may be used a substitutes for the butter. It depends on what you prefer.
7. Then sprinkle garlic and salt unto the fish to taste. The garlic must be sliced into small pieces so that the flavor can be easier to be absorbed. You may also used garlic salt but don’t add salt anymore because garlic salt has a salt component in it.
8. Slice four pieces of lemon and squeeze unto the fish. Slice the remaining lemon and place it over the fish.
9. Now your fish is ready to be wrapped with the aluminum foil. Make sure that the fish is completely covered with aluminum. Also, wrapped it in a manner where in the fish is tightly sealed so that the juice of the fish may not spill while grilling.
10. When your griller is preheated, slowly place the wrapped fish over it. Set it then to low to medium heat.
11. Wait for around 20 minutes.
12. Remove the foil from the griller, open the foil and check to see if it is already cooked. Do this carefully because it is very hot. A clamp may be used so as not to burn your hand. You will know that it is already cook if it will flake easily when you touch it with fork. If its still raw, replace it over the griller. Make sure not to overcook it so that your fish will not dry up.
Additional tips and warnings:
· Choose a fish cod that is fresh to attain the best flavor. Fresh cod fish will also hold up better compared to the not so fresh fish.
· You may also add additional spices if you wish to add more taste.
· If you don’t want to make use of an aluminum foil you can. Just make sure that your griller is clean. Clean it with the use of a steel brush. Once it is clean, cover your grill grating with oil. You can use a brush for this process. This will avoid your fish from sticking to your grill. Also, this will prevent your cod from looking nasty and distasteful. Once it turned white, it’s already cooked. You may also add paprika at this stage.
· If you wish to marinate a cod fish before grilling, you may do so. Just make your own marinade. Place the fish in a casserole and pour the marinade. Leave it 30 to minutes uncovered in a room temperature.
· One option for your marinade would be by mixing 75ml of mirin, 45ml of soy sauce and ¼ cup of water.
· Grilled cod fish is better to be served immediately after cooking.
· Check if you or your visitors are not allergic to this type of fish. Allergic reactions may be dangerous if not treated immediately.
Cod fish can be prepared in various ways. For me, grilling it is the best way to draw out its unique and tasty flavor fully.
