How to Wear a Romper

By

First question you may ask is, “What exactly is a romper? Well, a romper is an outfit that is usually worn by toddlers and children but is now fast becoming popular among the women of today. It is a one-piece outfit that is similar to an overall. It is also usually sleeveless or short sleeved and often has its built-in belt. It is loose fitting and has short legs that can also be gathered in the end.

Since 2006, rompers have somewhat been given a new dose of life. Several well-known designers have included them in their collections and it is now available in many retailers. Some noted designers such as Marc Jacobs and Max Azria have included their versions of rompers in their Spring 2009 collections. Celebrities who are notable fans of this style include Mischa Barton, Blake Lively, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan.

The popularity of the romper is attributed to its versatility as well as its comfortability. Women can easily change from casual to upscale, as well as from daywear to nightwear in this outfit. But, unfortunately not all women can wear this trendy outfit. In general, this outfit is very hard to pull off. We might wish that it could be for anyone but it just doesn’t work that way. They look best with women who have long legs, average height, little to no backside and flat stomachs. Pretty much like those women mentioned above. But if you have the above mentioned body type and the confidence, then I am sure that you can pretty much pull this dress off.

Here are some tips on how to wear a romper:

  • Be natural. Excessive makeup and too much hair fuss are not suited for the romper look. As experts put it, the rompers should be the center of attention. Do not wear anything nylon or tights over your legs. Hair in loose, natural makeup and bare legs can get you anywhere with a romper.
  • Flat shoes are ideal. They complement the romper and don’t take too much attention away from it. Leather ballet flats or maybe canvas wedge pair of sandals is the ideal shoe-type. Subtlety should be the motif so you need to get away from being too showy.
  • There is no need to overly accessorize as the style is somewhat minimalist. Oversized sunglasses, a dangly necklace and a nice looking belt should be the best look. For a handbag, a non-matching totebag made of any material goes a long way. Your bag should be larger as a purse doesn’t suit with this kind of style. Just remember to never over accessorize and you will be fine.

But before you get all gaga and buy all the romper you can get your hands on, remember that rompers are really only a trend right now. It might be popular today but it may go out of style a few seasons from now. Therefore, it is not advisable and not very financially healthy for you to buy many different rompers today.
